Melissa found an old checking storefront that needed a lot of care before it was what she had dreamed. With hope and determination Melissa collected free paint samples where ever she could get them. With every coat of fresh paint Melissa's vision was coming to light. A few months later, the first Dollar Thrift on Auburn had been opened. It all started with a yard sale on a lawn. In Summer 2016 Dollar Thrift Founder Melissa Jones and family help a yard sale down outside their family home. During this time Melissa had the idea to sell everything for a dollar. She drew up a sign that said" ANY Item One Dollar". That day every item on the lawn had sold. The next weekend Melissa set up another yard sale with that same sign. Again that day all items had been sold.
Melissa saw that this was benefiting the community around her and decided to start looking for a storefront to continue her mission. Melissa found an old checking storefront that needed a lot of care before it was what she had dreamed. With hope and determination Melissa collected free paint samples where ever she could get them. With every coat of fresh paint Melissa's vision was coming to light. Similarly Melissa collected scraps of floor samples and pieced them together to create the current mixed combination that lines the Dollar Thrift store. A few months later, with some renovations the first Dollar Thrift in Sacramento had been opened.
